In this vlog I share my opinion on the Medicare Marketing Vultures that surface during the AEP (Annual Election Period) time of year and what you can do about it.

(WATCH)

I'm here to talk to you a little bit more about Medicare and this time of year called AEP which is annual election period and the scammers that are going to try and get into your head and try and steal away your business and steer you towards something that isn't true.

MEDICARE UPDATE
Annual Enrollment Period
Oct 15th - Dec. 7th

And the marketing activities of people who are very unethical about this calling you and telling you you have better options better things that are available and perhaps you do but for the most part if you're happy with your plan or you're going into a plan you don't want somebody misleading you just to get your business for a sale.

I don't operate that way! I look at things completely different and try and be very transparent and uphold a high level of ethics. I'm not here for the sale. I'm here to help you because this is a lifelong activity for you when you move into the Medicare world.  If you have any questions or you're getting inundated- and every year a lot of clients call me and say I'm getting all these calls, and I'm get all this stuff in the mail and I'm getting texts and I'm making me question do I have the right plan?

My first question is, has the plan been working for you? Typically they say that's working great with no problems at all. I say it is just the scammers, the vultures that are out there trying to get your business and it happens every year at this time. Unfortunately I can't do anything to stop it but if you do need help you do have questions, this is the time of year you can leave a comment below or you can email me text or call and I'd be happy to help you.

Hopefully this information and video will help you or someone you know.

This is another Medicare Update on the importance of making a list of your prescriptions. A current list with the frequency, dosage, name and whether it's a generic or brand name.

(WATCH)

Make sure they will still be on your plan going forward and this is very important to do because with a PDP - prescription drug plan this is the only time of year during AEP (the annual election period which is October 15 through December 7th) to do so.

This is also the time when you can make adjustments to your plans if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan.. Make sure you put your list together ahead of time so you've got plenty of time to make adjustments and pick the right plan if in fact you need to make a change. I'd be happy to help you.

A cancer diagnosis tends to dominate all aspects of our lives. From tests, waiting for results, treatment, side effects, surgeries, it can make us feel an unimaginable amount of fear and frustration.

The complete lack of control from our situation seems daunting and often hopeless. As grim as it may seem there are many things we can control for a better experience living with the big “C”. We can still make decisions and choices that will help us navigate this unfamiliar territory on this unexpected journey.

(WATCH)

Part 1 of 4

Part 2 of 4

Part 3 of 4

Part 4 of 4

Self-care is one of the best ways to start. Caring for ourselves is not selfish or self indulgent.
It is a practical way to deal with our new normal.

Routine self-care practices can change and even eliminate some of the unfavorable effects of anxiety, stress and sleep disorders commonly experienced when dealing with cancer.

Insight...
"Not everything about having cancer is negative.
It changes your perspective. Suddenly every aspect of life becomes more meaningful than ever before".

It is entirely possible to change your viewpoint and fragile disposition by the choices you make each and every day.  You can choose to have a good day or you can choose to have a bad day.

Here are some ideas to help you have a better day… every day.

  • Slow down. Find time for you, your body and mind. Don't let other people's agendas dictate what you do with your time and your energy.
  • Make and take time for yourself. Start a hobby such as gardening, crafts, art, dancing, cooking and enjoy more music and reading.
  • Start a journal. Write poetry, lyrics, stories, letters (remember you don’t have to send them) or start a blog.
  • Nourish your body. Eat the best foods possible for your condition. Your body is capable of doing amazing things when it receives an abundance of fortified foods for proper nourishment.
  • Light exercise and spend more time with people you care about. Taking a walk, stretching, light calisthenics and cardio workouts are extremely beneficial. Getting out and moving around helps to motivate one to socialize more with others. It does so much good to keep your mind and body focused on the positive things life has to offer.
  • Prioritize sleep. Getting proper rest is essential to help with healing or recovery.
  • Protect your time. Saying "no" when you would usually say “yes” is crucial when overwhelmed.
  • They do care. Don’t hold your friends and family hostage if they lack some interest in your journey with your disease. They still love and care about you. Realize they are busy with their lives, just like you.

Hopefully this information and video will help you or someone you know.

(LISTEN - Audio transcript from video)

Today I’m talking about Medicare rate and Part B deductible changes for 2022.

 So what does this mean?

Part B of Medicare is the 80 percent that Medicare covers for medical purposes, doctors, specialty visits like radiation, chemotherapy, lab tests etc.  It has a premium associated with it. If you are drawing social security and receiving your social security benefit you'll see that's already been deducted. You may be paying out of pocket because you haven't drawn social security yet, which is an out-of-pocket expense usually paid on a quarterly basis.

(WATCH)

In any given year only 9-11% of people need to change plans, so chances are you won’t need to do anything.

This is also the period during which people on Medicare Advantage Plans can choose to drop their Medicare Advantage Plan to return to Traditional Medicare.

Any plan changes made during this AEP will go into effect on January 1st, 2022.

MEDICARE UPDATE

In 2022 Part B is increasing to $158.50

Largest increase we've seen in six years

In 2021 that amount was $148.50. in 2022 all estimates are showing it's going to be $158.50 which is the largest increase we've seen in about five or six years.

Part b deductible is going from $198 to $203. Those are the estimated numbers and not so much of an increase there.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan some plans have zero premium and other plans have a little bit of premium associated with them. Different from a Medicare supplement plan but those are actually going down a little bit. The national average was around $21 to $22 and it's going down to $19 so a little bit of a break there.

In most prescription drug plans (PDP) there is a deductible built in that you have to meet before some of the coverage kicks in and in 2021 that number was $435. Now the deductible is going to $445 for 2022. Those are the estimates that I have thus far.

As for carrier increases for Medicare supplement plans we're not exactly sure but typically they're 2 to 3 percent and sometimes as high as 4, 5 to six percent. It depends on the economy and what's going on that year and now with Covid it's really hard to say what exactly is going to happen but you can always expect a rate increase. What else is new right? However if you have a Medicare advantage plan and you do have a zero premium plan there is no rate increase. Your max out of pocket expense may be a little bit more or a little bit less depending on the plan and the changes for the next planned period which is 2022 starting January 1st.

AEP is the time of year called annual election period from October 15 through December 7th where you can switch, make plan changes or disenroll from a Medicare advantage plan or change your prescription drug plan. If with a Medicare advantage plan, the drug plans are built inside the plan under one umbrella so to speak. If you have a Medicare supplement plan, you typically have a second plan called a prescription drug plan (a pdp) for your drug coverage and this is the time of year during AEP you can change that plan or modify it. I Suggest that you take a look at that and if you have someone who helps you with this make sure you get together with them.

Start With ‘Why’ When Storytelling For Work From Home Insurance Agents

Your 'Why' Is Your Story | By Craig Colley

In this blog you will learn how to:

•Define 'why' you do what you do, based on a personal experience

•Why people buy ‘why’ you do something rather than ‘what’ you do

•Break down a story example to help you understand how to use your why and to create a compelling story of your own

The story you tell about yourself is only important to your client or prospect if it creates an emotional response, addresses a problem, provides a solution, and reveals expected results of what your solution can do for them.

Intellectual jargon has no place when building a relationship. It does not matter if it is an audience of one or a thousand, your story and why you do what you do, must trigger curiosity, empathy, trust and belief in you and who you are.

What you share should be crafted in such a way that it has universal appeal and based 100% on truth. If this is done correctly, it should connect you instantly because it’s similar to what they might be going through currently in their own lives or those who they care about.

Once they have heard your story, understand your why, your ability to communicate and earn trust is increased by immeasurable amounts.

Few things are more important than mastering this aspect of your insurance career.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in the business 1 month or 50 years, most agents never fully realize the potential amount of sales lost by not honing their storytelling skills.

This blog is designed to help you sharpen the edge on your ability to connect quickly, share what’s important to your client or prospect and create and close more sales.

>> I have included a worksheet to help you create your why and story.

My story and why

I’d like to share a bit of my story and my ‘why’ to help you construct a framework to use as a template. I have stated many times, “Its always easier to edit than create”. This example is for that precise reason.

I will share two different ways to frame the same story depending on the situation at hand.

1)Leading with a story where the listener knows the story is about you.

2)Leading with a story where they find out later the story is about you.

I will illustrate both examples.

FYI: This is my actual story and one I have shared countless times. This format works if done correctly. There is no magic to it, just truth laid out in a specific order, with the right words, phrases and emotional triggers to prompt the desired response.

VERSION ONE

Leading with a story where the listener knows the story is about you.

I grew up in the Midwest in a typical family. I had a loving and talented Mom, a hardworking and funny Dad and I was 2nd of 4 kids.

We lived in a nice house in a beautiful neighborhood, I had my own room, took vacations, had an allowance, always had new clothes to wear, lots of gifts at Christmas and food on the table.

I was able to do so many things and never felt like I was deprived or denied anything. I knew I was fortunate but never really gave it much thought.

Well that all changed the night of July 4th when I was 12 years old when my Dad died suddenly of a heart attack. Everything changed for obvious reasons.

My Dad was president of a family business that my great grandfather started in 1908 called ‘Colley Elevator’. |

My grandfather had also run the business but had also died suddenly a few years prior, leaving the business to my Dad.

Turns out that the business went to my Mom and she had no knowledge or ability to run the company.

It sold in a fire sale partly because my parents didn’t have life insurance and were carrying a substantial amount of debt along with their monthly expenses.

Within 6 weeks we also had to sell our big beautiful house and move to a much smaller place with just a few bedrooms.

Not only did I lose my Dad (who I still miss everyday), but the way of life I knew ended as well.

There were no more vacations, new clothes, allowances, and things were tight.

To my Mom’s credit she worked 3 jobs to provide for us kids.

I started working part time at age 13 to help as well.

So many things I took for granted were gone and were not coming back any time soon.

Once I was a little older, I started to realize why life changed so quickly.

It was my parent’s lack of understanding of the importance of having life insurance and managing debt.

If they only had a plan in place, life would have been better all around. Obviously, the emotional loss will be with me forever, but if my parent’s finances were in better shape it would have been so much better for my Mom and my family.

That is
‘why’ I am so passionate about what I do as an insurance professional. Now every day I help keep others from experiencing what I and my family went through.

It changed who I was, but the experience help prepare and mold me into being the most caring insurance business relationship partner one could ever have.

It is the main reason I get up every day, roll up my sleeves and enjoy preparing and providing protection for your life, family and assets.
##

This version illustrates many points of which most are pain points.

They are important to use as often as possible. Equally important is how you resolve the pain from your experience and to save them from going through the pain you and your family went through.

Now you're probably thinking, that is a lot focus on pain, and you're right.

Most people choose to avoid pain then enjoy pleasure. Always start with pain points then resolve into the ‘Why’ you do what you do and how you can help them because of your experience.

These are the points you want to make crystal clear in your story.

•Life is great until it isn’t

•Emotional distress and lack of understanding why

•Extreme change of lifestyle because of an unexpected tragedy

•Gaining understanding and planting seeds for the future

•Becoming a licensed insurance professional to provide services that my family never had

•Sharing my story, why and passion to help others to avoid a similar situation

----

VERSION TWO

Leading with a story where they find out later the story is about you.

The story is essentially the same with the main difference being how you begin and close.

It can be remarkably effective because of the surprise ending. Before you go into any type of presentation, begin by ‘sharing a story’ which would start like this.

Before I begin, I’d like to share a short story with you.

Change the story from first person to third person.

It’s about a young boy who grew up in the Midwest in a typical family. He had a loving and talented Mom, a hardworking and funny Dad and was 2nd of 4 kids. He lived in a nice house..

Jumping to the end…

If his parents only had a plan in place, life would have been better all around.

Obviously, the emotional loss will be with him forever, but if his parent’s finances were in better shape it would have been so much better for his Mom and his family.

The reason I am so passionate about what I do as an insurance professional is because… (pause)
that 12-year-old boy… (pause) was me. (pause)

Now every day I help keep others from experiencing what I and my family went through.
##

This little twist provides a reaction you should be able to feel.

This approach is extremely effective when communicating virtually.

It helps you to identify so many things about your prospect going forward.

•It may prompt them to share their story or a story about someone they know

•They may express how sorry they are for what happened to you

•They will remember your story

•They will be more open to trust you and want to follow your lead

•They will start believing you are the right person to solve their problem

Bottom line, if done correctly it gets them comfortable enough to start talking.

Your story is the lead for you to do as much listening as possible from that point forward.

Remember the old saying. “We have two ears and one mouth”, meaning we should listen twice as much as we talk.

For sales professionals this is a real challenge. It is usually the main reason that disrupts the closing of most sales.

Your story has two goals;

to get them to start trusting and talking.

(Sometimes its hard to get them to stop talking, but that’s usually a good thing).

The value of identifying my ‘Why’ and how it serves as the nucleus for developing my story.

Turning a negative experience into a positive one for others.

Negative Result:

•Losing my Dad unexpectedly

•Burden on my Mom

•Lack of understanding why my lifestyle changed so much

•Loss of my home, money, family business

•Unknown future

Positive Outcome:

•Created an awareness and desire to help others

•Realization of unnecessary burden on a family

•Incentive to become a licensed Insurance professional

•Ability to market, educate and provide valuable information and guidance

Define 'why' you do what you do

Discovering your ‘why’ may be easier than you think.

It usually comes down to two important choices most make when they go into any line of business.

1)They do it solely for the financial rewards and profit. Which is a result of an effort and nothing more.

2)They do because they share a cause they believe in- to help others have a better service, product, and life experience from the business relationship.

This is based on what they personally have experienced in their own lives. It serves as the catalyst for everything they do in business and believe in.

People buy ‘why’ you do something rather than ‘what’ you do

Sharing your cause (based on your why) effectively will help others to believe in you and what you are offering. And if they believe strongly enough, you will have a loyal and dedicated client for life.

Believing something mutual with your client can have an unbelievable impact on your business.

Remember Dr. Martin Luther Kings’ speech in the summer of 1963 in Washington, DC?

The speech wasn’t called “I have a plan for your future”, or “I have been a preacher for 25 years”.

It was “I have a dream” which prompted a shared belief that changed the world.

You can do the same for yourself by adopting this same philosophy.

People follow those who lead and inspire them. When you start with your
‘why’ you will have the ability to inspire and lead your client, connect on an emotional level (which is a state of mind where people make most decisions) and close more business.

That is how important knowing, developing, and starting with why in your storytelling is, for your insurance business!

Let’s break down the story example to help you understand how to define your ‘why’ and create a story of your own.

Points to include in your story

•Time frame - Who, What, Where and Why

•Words and phrases that provoke or trigger an emotional response

•Using the emotional responses to gain belief in you and your cause

•Sharing that you know what it is like to experience something they do not want to experience themselves

•Your passion and reason for being in the insurance business is based 100% on your ‘why’ and personal experience

•Identify yourself as the life jacket and navigator who they believe can get them back to safety if they find themselves on stormy seas

In Review:

The worksheet provided gives you an outline to help you create a great story to share.

Your ability to master this task will translate into an unbelievable boost to your relationship building, earning trust, sharing a common belief, and creating and closing more insurance business.

3 Cost-Cutting Strategies for Work From Home Insurance Agents

It's Not All About Income | By Craig Colley

In this blog I will show you the realities of income vs. expenses in a WORK FROM HOME insurance business, but from a different perspective.

I will reveal:

•Overhead & Expense Savings
•Fees, Subscriptions, Licenses and Tax Elimination
•Risk, Liability and Insurance Reduction

With an itemized list of your current overhead and expenses based on your current situation, I will illustrate how much value cutting costs from your bottom line can do to help you scale your work from home insurance business.

>> If you do not have a list of your current expenses I have provided a free PDF download Expense & Overhead Worksheet.

I’m going to show one example of how I made an extra 40k by simply cutting 3 areas of expenses listed above.

First a little back story…

For decades I had brick & mortar offices, production studios, a chain of retail stores, various leased office space for employees/productions… and a great deal of overhead, maintenance costs and PROBLEMS. I was also traveling to every appointment and even worse, sitting in traffic trying to get there and back.

When I finally cracked the lock with the right combination of services, products, hardware and know how, I was overly excited because I knew I could now work from home and really from anywhere, anytime.

If I plan an extended vacation, a working vacation, or just keep maintaining the automated virtual work from home machine I created, no problem. If I have connectivity to cell or internet service, I am good to go. In the world we live today that is easy to do.

And yes, I did the same exercise myself. When I added up all the costs I was incurring, day after day, month after month and year after year it was an astronomical amount of money.

Depending on the circumstance, my daily expenses ranged from $500 to $1000 A DAY just to keep the doors open!

That is a lot of money going to someone else! I was basically working 2 to 4 and sometime 6 months a year for the privilege of putting all that money in someone else’s bank account.

It was, however, a big fat motivator to find another way. And the other way I found was going virtual by working from home.

The problem was technology had not progressed as fast as my vision for what could be. All of that has changed in the last five years and will only get better as time goes on.

My dream of work 100% from home is now a reality.

Now I am going to share how I made that extra 40k.

First let’s take a look at actual expense reductions.

These numbers are estimates of operation costs for one of my brick & mortar business locations.

Monthly Expenses Changes When Working From Home:
(This list does not include labor costs)

•Office $2000 mo. to Zero
•Business Utilities $600 mo. to Zero
•Business Liability Insurance $125 mo. to Zero
•Business Telephone $160 mo. to Zero
•Business Use Property Tax $125 mo. to Zero
•Business Internet Service $110 mo. to Zero
•Office Cleaning Services $100 mo. to Zero

Estimated Savings: $3320 a month - $39,840 a yr.

HONORABLE MENTION: (Not included in estimate above)

•City & Fire codes / misc. annual charges - cut by 90%
•Equipment and Office Maintenance - cut by 90%
•Travel Expenses reduced by 85%

Here is a Breakdown of the 3 Cost-Cutting Strategies:

Overhead & Expense Savings

> Rent & utilities are no longer on your accounting ledger. And you should be able to receive your deposit back if you have left the leased area in the same condition as when you enter into your leasing agreement. (This will seem like a bonus check when it arrives!)

Fees, Subscriptions, Licenses and Tax Reduction / Elimination

> Canceling unneeded subscriptions, city & fire license and some tax requirements eliminated when you are no longer operating a business in a public facility.

•Risk, Liability, and Insurance Reduction

> A business is always vulnerable to lawsuits in an office, industrial or retail setting. The liabilities are simply higher. Insurance coverage and their premiums stop when exiting your brick & mortar facility.

Current estimated monthly operating cost for my virtual business runs about $200 a month. And that is based on maintaining a massive work from home insurance business system and marketing machine.

True, your work from home insurance business will have costs, but they will be significantly lower when compared side by side.

Comparison before & after going virtual:

•Brick & Mortar annual cost of Operations: $40.000
•Virtual Business Cost of Operations: $2400.00

That’s a about a 99% reduction!

Conclusion:

You don't have to be an accounting wizard to figure out how much cutting out brick and mortar expenses saves on an annual basis.

In reference to the 40k I made, it was a direct correlation to the 40k I saved by going 100% virtual and work from home.

Another way to look at this:

1)If you are saving 40k a year, like this example, that is 40k you do not have to work to make just to operate your business.

2)Re-purpose the 40k into creating and marketing your work from home insurance business.

How to Create Awesome Videos on your iPhone for Your Insurance Clients
Part 1 of 3

In this vlog I'm going to explain the best way to shoot awesome videos for your insurance clients or prospects with your iPhone and shooting everything outside.

This is Craig Colley from GO Agent GO where I help you break through barriers with tech tips and tools for work from home insurance agents.

I'm also an insurance agent and I have created GO Agent GO to share with you my 20 years of experience building and using a work from home insurance business.

I received so many questions and perhaps you're struggling with this one.

What is the best way to use your iPhone to record a short video to connect with your client or prospect?

The goal is always to create a video that not only gets watched, but prompts action, response and connects you differently than a phone call, screen share or zoom meeting and makes you different from your competition.

I’m going to keep things very simple but the end result will be you'll be making extremely effective videos for your clients with the tips I'm going to share in this 3 part series.

Part 1 (covered in this vlog)
Prepare for your shoot: 6 tips to prepare before shooting

Part 2
Tech and Tips:
4 tips to set up your shoot.

What you're going to need and carry with you from this point going forward.

Part 3
iPhone Camera Techniques:
7 tips to shooting a great great video.

Before we start let's look at the equipment and travel gear what you're going to need to make everything you shoot on your iPhone from this point forward is awesome!

  • An iPhone. Any smart phone you have will work. In this example I am using an iPhone in selfie mode.

  • Use either the built in iPhone camera mic (weather dependent) but what is preferred is a wired microphone or Bluetooth Airpods which only work in some applications. Note: Bluetooth Airpods will not work with the camera app on a iPhone unless you have OS 13 installed on your iPhone. Some older iPhone models only go to OS 12.

  • A selfie stick. One that extends at least 2 feet out.

  • A backup power supply for the phone in case you lose power (with a lighting/USB cable).

Those are the essential tools for the gear.

Now on the vanity side: hairspray, a mirror, some makeup, comb or brush and water.

These are the essentials to put together into a travel kit that you always have with you.

This setup will enable you to shoot great videos no matter where you are.

Let's get started with Part 1 of ‘How To Create Awesome Videos For Your Insurance Clients With Your iPhone’.

Part 1
Prepare for your shoot: 6 tips to prepare before shooting

TIP 1 - Create A Headline For Your Subject Line.

Your first step in this process of creating a great video for your clients is writing a headline or subject line that is compelling and is going to want to make somebody open your video and watch it.

Think of it like an old classified ad that would catch your attention and make you want to read and respond to the ad.

Or perhaps how movies are described in a short phrase of well chosen words for an entire blockbuster.

That is what you want to create for your subject line.

When you think about how important every aspect of this video shoot is and what we're talking about in this 3 part series, this accounts for about 50% of what matters most in this entire project.

Think of a pie chart with 50% of the entire project falling on the importance of the headline or subject line. The main reason is, if they don't open your email, text, direct messenger or social media posts or whatever it might be, no one will ever see what you recorded for them.

You have to make sure it's extremely compelling and motivates the end user to open and begin watching.

I have an entire different vlog that talks about creating fantastic headlines and subject lines. I won't cover that now but you can check out at another time.

Creating a great subject line is a huge piece of the pie so make sure you realize the importance of the headline and write a great one so your client or prospect will actually open and watch your video.

TIP 2 - Prepare What You're Going To Say

Create talking points and a message that matters.
You're also going to want to have a ‘call to action’ (CTA) in your video as well. What you say is the utmost of importance. Which is exactly what I did for this video and vlog.

I prepared for hours to write & record every little segment that you're seeing and reading to keep your interest and continue to solve problems when creating great videos with your iPhone.

Make your messages matter to ensure someone's going to watch. The most important tip I can give you is, make sure to make the first 10 seconds count. Most people will only give you about 10 seconds. So it doesn't matter if your video is 10 minutes long if they don't get through the first 10 seconds.

If you don't hook them with something in that time period nothing else that you prepared and shot is going to matter. is vitally important, Motivate your client and catch their interest so they continue watching.

Have a great opener (10 seconds), acknowledge their problem, offer a solution combined with a CTA. The desired action you are leading to take. Make sure your first 10 seconds matter as they account for about 30% of the importance of the project.

In these first two tips, your headline is about 50% and the first 10 seconds of your video’s about 30% on the importance scale of each video you produce. That's 80% of your entire project just in these first 2 tips.

The other 20% is everything else I'm going to cover in this vlog/video. So these are really important to get right.

I have another vlog/video that has to do with content writing and preparation and detail that you can check out as well.

Make sure those first 10 seconds really count and plan out everything you're going to say on your video.

TIP 3 - Make Yourself Extremely Personable

How you can become more personable?

First, present yourself as friendly as possible. You've got to gain trust and build a relationship.

You also have to be extremely likable. People mostly do business with people they like rather than people who are more qualified. Remember, be friendly but don't over do it!

Make sure to focus your eyes on the dot on your phone where the camera lens is (in selfie mode).

The lens is located on the left side when in landscape mode and directly at the top of the screen when in portrait mode. That is where you want to be looking at all times on every video you shoot.

You can get better at this by practicing this simple tip. Every time you pick up your phone, look at the camera lens (small dot) first. By doing this exercise you can train yourself to look at the lens dot instead of the screen.

If you have the camera reversed and you just have a lens, make sure you're always looking into the lens.

This is how you create eye contact. It will appear to your viewer as if you’re looking at them right in the eye. Do this as much as possible to help you to connect.

Your client or prospect needs to identify you as the only one that's going to be able to solve a specific problem they have. Use your eyes. They can say a lot with using any words.

Your task is to become the person you’re clients depend on. An agent that solves problems and gains trust by earning it.

At all times, make sure that you're very personable, friendly, kind, generous, caring and trustworthy no matter how bad your day is going, how desperate you are for a deal to happen or if you just don’t feel like it. That type of approach is for losers. At GO Agent GO we create winners!

It’s best practice daily to become more personable.

TIP 4 - Your Attire, What You Look Like And How You Present Yourself

What is the typical style of clothing that you wear? How do you style your hair? What is the look that people identify with you?

Whatever that is, make sure that comes across in your video and there's some consistency of that as well.

In the vlog/video series that I'm shooting right now I'm going to have this same shirt on the whole time. I don't always wear a t-shirt but I'm doing this one because I’m outside in a beautiful place and it's summer. That is the look that I'm using on this video. Most of my videos are pretty casual so you'll see me in things that are similar to what I'm wearing now.

Whatever your image is- if you're somebody who wears a suit and tie all the time or some type of nice blouse or shirt, or an open collar shirt with a sports jacket, then use that in your videos. Make sure you're consistent with your look and that your hair is done nicely.

I suggest you look into using some makeup. The reason I'm saying this is sometimes you may have perspiration, oily skin which can reflect lighting and shine. This could cause some hot spots on your face or head.

TV newscasters are a good example. They wear a lot of makeup to create an even skin tone. They don't have any glare coming off of the lighting that can be very bright when they are shooting video.

Make sure that you look good at all times. I showed you some things to have in your little travel kit - mirror, comb or brush, hairspray, some powder makeup (to tone down any shine) and make sure you bring some water. You will get thirsty on the shoot. Wherever you are, make sure you have enough water too so you don't have dry mouth. If your mouth is dry, you may crackling sounds which can be very distracting and sometimes annoying to the end user.

BONUS TIP: Use makeup. I wore makeup on this shoot because to avoid having any glare if I get some direct sun on my head. I knock it down a little bit because it helps create an even skin look.

It doesn't mean you have to do it every time but these tips are a few things to consider.

The more professional you come across, the more professional business client you're going to attract.

It's just part of the equation to make you appear more approachable and trustworthy in the videos to engage your customers and build relationships.

Tip 5 - Smile!

You gotta be smiling. Smile at the beginning of your videos, smile at the end of your videos, smile in between phrases, smile when you're talking as much as you can. It makes a huge difference in your body language. Your voice will have a little higher pitch because it's lifted up by your smile.

People like to see you smile which is so much better than seeing somebody talk from a depressed or desperate position. No... that doesn't work at all. You gotta be smiling, smiling and smiling!

If you're not the type of person who doesn't smile a lot this is something you can actually practice. If you just hold a smile, even if it's a fake smile and just hold your cheekbones up. Believe it or not your body in time will learn that muscle memory and it won't feel so awkward when you're doing it.

That is something you can practice and also practice in a mirror.

BONUS TIP: Even if you're not using a video, having a mirror by your phone when you're talking to somebody makes a huge difference. If you smile when you're talking on the phone call there's a difference in your voice as well.

Because audio is such a huge piece of video, smiling makes your voice sound different as well.

Smile when you start a shot, smile when you pause for a phrase, smile when you're talking and smile when you end your shot and you'll have much better results with your videos.

Tip 6 - Energy!

You've got to have a lot of energy when you're talking on your videos. Be careful not to be over exaggerating. I'm doing that a little bit now (in the video) just to demonstrate it but you've got to use energy.

Use your energy to exude confidence. Even if it feels like it's not you, continue to practice and do it to be more effective in your videos.

They say that the camera adds 10 pounds because of the lenses. With energy you have to display about 30% more than the norm on video. Otherwise you can easily sound monotone, melancholy and uninteresting.

That's not what you're looking for.

You've got to have something that's going to captivate your audience all the time and energy is the way that you do it. And you can just ‘fake it until you make it’!

Like what I mentioned earlier about the smile. You can train your facial muscles to memorize a smile position on your face.

To create and have more energy would be the same thing. You just have to think about it before hitting the record button.

There's an old movie called "All That Jazz" starring Roy Scheider (who was the star of Jaws). There's a scene in that movie where no matter how he felt, and he was all messed up with lots of different things in his life, but no matter how he felt he would snap his fingers twice and say “it's showtime” and just find the energy and go out and do his thing.

You've got to do the same thing.

Think of everything you shoot as a production.

I remember years ago I was friends with many folks at Paramount Studios who were working on ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ that used to be on in the 90s.

I remember a conversation I had with actor Brian Dennehy in the green room who starred in ‘Cocoon’, ‘First Blood’, ‘Tommy Boy’ and lots of different movies.

Sadly he recently passed away. He was a great guy. He told me something that I never forgot.

He said, “you know I'm going out to do this interview and everything I do is a performance. Whether I'm talking to somebody or if I'm signing an autograph, if I'm doing an audition, if I'm doing a talk show, I'm doing a movie, everything's a performance”.

I thought that's a really good piece of advice. When you think about it every aspect of your insurance business is a performance.

If your energy's down and people don't feel like you're the person that's going to be able to solve their problem and do it with confidence then you're missing the boat.

Bringing energy to every conversation can be a huge asset to incorporate into the person that you can become.

Bring it out in all the videos that you shoot and and put it in your business as much as possible and remember to smile!

This concludes part 1 of my 3 part series and 6 tips to prepare for your shoot.

Here's a quick review:

I discussed the importance of the headline. It's about 50% of the importance of the entire project so make sure it's a good one.

Prepare your content. What you're going to say, especially the first 10 seconds.

Be personable. You’ve got to be very friendly and engaging.

As a AHIP Certified Medicare Advisor I was notified by the medicare.gov regarding this Scam Alert and now I am sharing the information with you.

Free masks for your Medicare Number? Don't fall for it.

Have you gotten robocalls, text messages, or emails offering free face masks? Or maybe you've seen social media posts about free COVID-19 testing kits, "cures," or protective equipment?

Unfortunately scammers are using the COVID-19 pandemic to try to steal your Medicare Number and personal information. If anyone reaches out to get your Medicare Number or personal information in exchange for something, you can bet it's a scam.1

What to do

1. Hang up!
2. DO NOT give them money or personal information!
3. Report the scam at https://www.medicare.gov/forms-help-resources/help-fight-medicare-fraud/how-report-medicare-fraud!

Medicare may call you in
some situations but will never

  • Threaten you
  • Suspend your Medicare Number
  • Demand immediate payment from you
  • Require payment by cash, gift card, pre-paid debit card, or wire transfer
  • Ask for gift card numbers over the phone or to wire or mail cash

What to look out for

The call or email says "free masks for your Medicare Number? Don't fall for it!

Someone asking you to pay a fine or debt with retail gift cards, wire transfers, pre-paid debit cards, internet currency, or by mailing cash.

Scammers pretend they’re from Medicare, Social Security or another government agency. Caller ID or documents sent by email may look official but they are not.

Callers threaten you with arrest or other legal action.

Protect yourself, friends, and family!
